But one aspect where Nebraska didn’t struggle was the merchandise department. In an interview with The Bottom Line, Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos revealed that apparel sales had gone up “30 to 35 percent” following the hiring of Scott Frost as their new head coach in December 2017.Per Omaha World-Herald:“But it’s always been very, very good,” Moos said of apparel sales, praising Husker fans for their loyalty within the borders and also in major cities such as Denver and New York. “…Once you cross that border into Nebraska, it’s all red. That red has to come from somewhere.”Frost was hired following a historic season as head coach of UCF, where he led the Knights to a 13-0 season that included an American Athletic Conference title, and an upset win over Auburn in the Peach Bowl. But Frost endured a difficult first year as head coach of the Huskers. The team started the season 0-6, allowing 24 points or more in each of those losses. The six losses included a first-ever Nebraska loss to Troy.Frost’s team recovered in the second half of the season, winning four of their next five and nearly upsetting Ohio State while scoring 45 or more points three times. The team ultimately finished with a 4-8 record, matching last year’s losing record under former head coach Mike Riley. One of Nebraska’s breakout stars of the season was freshman quarterback Adrian Martinez, who finished the season with 2,617 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and a 64.6-percent completion rate.[Omaha World-Herald]last_img
