Apple’s new iPhones — the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C — arrive this week. However, claiming your new phone won’t be as easy as simply buying it, even though you are ready and willing to throw some hard-earned money at Apple. Rather than discuss how not being able to easily purchase a new toy even if you have more than enough money reflects on society, we’re just here to tell you exactly how, when, and where you can buy your new iPhone 5S.We’re focusing on the 5S because the iPhone 5C is available for pre-orders from your carrier and from Apple itself, right now. Easy peasy. The iPhone 5S, on the other hand, has not been made available for pre-order, and the devices quickly sold out in China. So, you might need to min-max your shopping skill by brushing up on the dates, times, and locations of the phone’s availability. The iPhone 5S is not being made available for pre-order. That means if you really want to be one of the first people to get an iPhone 5S, you’ll have to line up sometime during the night for when your local Apple or carrier store opens in the morning. Depending on the iPhone’s popularity in your area and the length of line, you might be able to just roll up an hour before the doors open. This one’s on you more than anything, but our local stores are opening at 8AM (ET).If you don’t want to hang out all night, or even wake up early, you can set an alarm clock to midnight PT (3AM ET), which is the time the phones will be made available online. This includes Apple.com and your carrier’s online portal. If having to schedule your day around when the new phone becomes available sounds obnoxious, that’s because it is; but remember, it’s not any more obnoxious than placing a 5S pre-order. You still have to hop online at 3AM in order to place a pre-order before stock dries up. The only real difference is that when you place a pre-order, you have to wait longer until you get the phone. The concurrent retail store release also provides you with an alternative option that’ll get you the phone even faster than placing an online order would, so long as your location doesn’t sell out. Both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are launching at the same time, September 20. If you’d like a 5C, just head on over to Apple’s online outlet or your online carrier portal to place a pre-order. If you’d like a 5S, get ready to be awake at a time you’d prefer to be sleeping on Friday. The iPhone 5S will come in graphite, silver, and gold colors. The 16GB will retail for $199, a 32Gb for $299, and the 64GB for $399 (all on a two-year contract). The 5C will start at $99 for 16GB while the 32GB model will be $199.
