Vitiaz FC edged out Morobe in 2-1 win

first_imgSOCCER: Vitiaz FC came from behind to beat Morobe United 2-1 in their first match of the National Soccer League (NSL) round one game in Lae. Accompanying the team to Lae was Rogena Pelai who was happy about the team’s performance and the win. “This is our first time in the NSL competition and we were excited and nervous at the same time. We knew it was going to be a tough game but we managed to win.” “Vitiaz is made up of Lae boys and that is our bonus for today’s win,” she said. Rogena said she is confident with the boys for the future games and will see how they will go when they meet the next team. Simon Gini gave Morobe United the lead in the first minutes of the match however Vitiaz was too strong for the hosts. Vitiaz came hard with alot of ball possession when former Morobe United captain Eliud Fugre scored an equalizer. The game was tense as both teams skilfully rolled out their game plans to find the lead. The crowd was on their toes when Russel Nirik of Vitiaz slipped the ball past Morobe United goal keeper to find the net. This goal gave Vitiaz the lead until the break. The second stanza of the match was entertaining when Morobe United tirelessly put themselves into the match. However Vitiaz could not let Morobe United execute their game plan. With the confidence and desire to win their first ever NSL match, Vitiaz played defensively well and kept the ball away from their goal keeper until the end of the match. -BY CHARLIE DUMAVI UPNG JOURNALISM STUDENTlast_img read more
